Griffin Lane, a classic country and rock band featuring hometown favorites Clay and Nancy Griffin, kicked off the 2025 Downtown Smithfield Summer Concert series on May 23 at the Main Street Square Stage in front of The Smithfield Times office.
Clay and Nancy have been performing for more than 40 years and together on stage for more than 27.
Other band members are Bobby Bryant on lead guitar and vocals, Steve Henry on drums and percussion, Joe Barlow on pedal steel guitar and banjo, Michael Gleason on keyboard and Smithfield native Mike Ellis on bass guitar.
The band will be heading to the studio soon to record some original music.
This year marks the 39th season of the concert series, which began under Times Publisher Emeritus John Edwards and his wife, Anne, on July 31, 1987, when Nelson Edwards’ family performed on a flatbed trailer.
