Robin Knauth, founder of the now-closed Gimme Shelter nonprofit thrift store that benefits the Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter, is planning a two-day yard sale to clear out the last of the store’s merchandise.
The yard sale will be held starting at 8 a.m. each day June 20-21 at 130 S. Church St.
Gimme Shelter operated for 12 years out of an early 1900s canopy gas station on Main Street before relocating and rebranding as Gimme Shelter’s Attic in 2022 at Hamtown Mercantile at 223 Main St. Gimme Shelter closed its Hamtown Mercantile booth in early January.
Knauth said the yard sale will include several big-ticket items, including a small antique boat she and her husband bought years ago and a golf cart that will be sold to the highest bidder.
The proceeds will be distributed to the shelter and related animal welfare causes via Gimme Shelter’s Foundation Inc., the nonprofit that oversaw the thrift store.
“This is our last hurrah,” Knauth said.
