A Carrsville man accused of fleeing the scene after allegedly striking a utility pole on May 29 and knocking down power lines on the outskirts of Windsor has turned himself in to Virginia State Police.
Police say Michael Keith Jackson, 33, of the 2200 block of Joyners Bridge Road identified himself as the driver of a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck police found abandoned in a ditch after the vehicle struck a power pole and caused active power lines to fall across Colosse Road. Police say Jackson turned himself in on June 1 after seeing news reports about the crash.
Police responded around 10:50 p.m. on May 29 to the crash at 27055 Colosse Road, near Colosse Baptist Church and roughly 5 miles south of the town limits. Police say Jackson lost control of his vehicle, ran off the roadway and struck the electric pole.
Jackson was charged with reckless driving.
Dominion Energy, which owns the power lines, was called to the scene along with the Virginia Department of Transportation to assist in establishing a detour. The road had reopened as of the morning of May 30 and Dominion’s online outage map showed no Isle of Wight County customers without power as of that morning.
