Smithfield High School’s varsity girls soccer team made the regional semifinals for the fifth consecutive year despite seeing many of its senior 2024 players graduate last year.
The Lady Packers’ path to the state championship came to a close on June 3 with a 3-0 loss to the Jamestown High School Eagles, finishing the 2025 season with 11 wins and seven losses. They’d previously defeated Churchland High School 2-0 on May 29 in the Class 4 Region A quarterfinal.
“We had a successful season with a young team,” said Christen Jones, wife of head coach Nathan Jones. “… Making it to this point was not expected by most people but they did it. We lost a tough, hard-fought match to Jamestown in the semifinals game.”
Nine of the Lady Packers’ players are freshmen, including Julianna Jones, who was named first team all-district.
Kennedy Sowden, a senior, was named second team all-district.
Avery Goetz, another freshman, and Brooke Pall, a sophomore, were each named honorable mention all-district.
Nathan Jones is in his sixth year of coaching the team. Jim Peraria serves as assistant coach.
