A $4 million amenity complex at the age-restricted South Harbor development in Carrollton will include a footbridge named in honor of the late pastor and Isle of Wight County Supervisor William McCarty.
South Harbor developer East West Communities announced in a news release that it will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon June 14, during which the bridge will be dedicated to McCarty, who represented the Carrollton area on the Board of Supervisors from 2016 through his unexpected passing on Jan. 25 and served as pastor of Healing Waters Worship Center in Carrollton. McCarty was just over a year into his third term when he died of double pneumonia at age 48.
Connie Pollard, senior vice president of marketing for East West Communities, said the bridge is intended for foot traffic but wide enough to accommodate golf carts and bicycles. Its dedication plaque honoring McCarty was installed June 6.
The supervisors approved rezoning 111 acres for the 340-unit South Harbor development in 2020. East West has previously developed the Founders Pointe, Benns Grant, Eagle Harbor and Gatling Pointe developments. South Harbor is East West’s first 55-and-up community.
The development began selling its first units in 2023 and to date has sold 135 homes, according to the news release. Homes have been selling in the upper $300,000 range.
Its first phase is being developed behind The Shoppes at Eagle Harbor shopping center and adjacent to Carrollton Baptist Church. The houses are being built by Ryan Homes.
The amenity complex includes a clubhouse, heated swimming pool and hot tub, pickle ball, bocce ball and shuffleboard courts, a putting greek, a playground for visiting children, dog park and several miles of nature trails.
A new phase of townhouses will come on the market this summer, the news release states. At completion, South Harbor will include 228 townhouses and 112 detached homes.
