I have just completed the nine-week Civilian Police Academy hosted by the Smithfield Police Department, and I wanted to wholeheartedly commend all members of the department who planned, coordinated and presented the weekly two-hour classes. 

We were given information about police procedures, explanation of pertinent laws, and plenty of time for questions and discussions. Each presenting officer was clear in their instruction and, I believe, all participants left the class with a much-improved understanding of the challenges in policing. I highly encourage Smithfield residents to take advantage of this course when it is offered again. 

Many thanks to all who put this course together. They are certainly busy with other activities but were willing to spend time with interested citizens.
