KX-TreeShears’ energy wood grapples are designed to speed up and streamline the handling of energy wood. A single versatile grapple can cut, stack, and load small trees and shrubs without the need to switch tools mid-task. Its robust yet sleek design ensures efficient work even in challenging conditions.

KX-TreeShears aims to develop products that combine practicality, performance, and ease of use. KX tree shears, also known as energy wood grapples are suitable for various applications, such as clearing field edges, cleaning up storm damage, or thinning young forests. They excel in fast, precise, and repetitive tasks. The KX tree shear is a smart choice for both individual landowners and professional contractors.

Using an energy wood grapple significantly reduces the need for manual labor, speeding up work and enhancing the overall process. Especially in repetitive tasks, considerable time savings lead to increased productivity. At the same time, workplace safety improves as physical strain on workers decreases, reducing the risk of injury.

The energy wood grapple can be mounted on various machines, such as forwarders or excavators. The grapple’s jaws open and close using hydraulic cylinders. After cutting a tree, the trunk remains in the grapple’s grip and can be moved directly to a stacking point. Trees can be cut to length in a bundle on the ground, further saving time.

The grapple’s design directly impacts work quality. KX tree shears feature tall jaws, ensuring a firm grip on the wood. A wide range of motion and jaws that form the widest point when open minimize damage to surrounding trees, which is especially important in thinning operations.

Various types of energy wood grapples are available, differing in design and features. Choosing the right grapple depends on the task: the type of wood being handled, the machine in use, and specific job requirements.

Modular Design Simplifies Maintenance

KX-TreeShears’ energy wood grapples feature a modular design that makes maintenance and part replacement straightforward. If a component is damaged, the entire grapple doesn’t need to be replaced—just the affected part. This speeds up maintenance and reduces costs. Additionally, the grapple has a detachable blade, making it suitable for loading as well.

The modular design offers other benefits, making the grapple lighter and sleeker yet still durable. In professional use, equipment reliability and longevity are critical. The KX tree shear meets these expectations, making it a smart investment for both contractors and landowners.

KX Energy Wood Grapple: The Result of Long-Term Development

KX-TreeShears’ products are designed and manufactured in Finland, where forests cover most of the land, and varying seasons and terrains pose additional challenges. Working in such conditions demands durability and reliability from equipment. KX energy wood grapples are developed specifically for these demanding environments.

The company’s story began 20 years ago when Kimmo Tossavainen, with experience in machine shops and the paper industry, started developing a new type of energy wood grapple. The goal was to create a machine that could more efficiently utilize small trees for energy. The first version worked well in principle but had practical shortcomings.

In 2011, a second-generation tree shear was introduced, featuring a dual-cylinder design that was lighter and more efficient than its predecessor. This grapple was a successful product, but development continued based on customer feedback.

The result was the concept of a modular tree shear that is lightweight, durable, and versatile. The third-generation energy wood grapple proved to be an excellent device. Its sleeker design reduces damage to standing trees, improves work precision, and allows for quick part replacement due to its modular structure. Additionally, the detachable blade enables the same grapple to be used for loading, increasing its versatility.

New Speed Valve Elevates Efficiency

KX-TreeShears now offer a new accessory: the speed valve, which enhances work efficiency and grapple controllability. The valve can double the speed of the jaws’ opening and closing movements, significantly boosting productivity, especially in repetitive tasks.

The valve also improves grapple controllability, making operation more intuitive. The grapple responds more sensitively to control inputs, resulting in smoother work. The outcome is a more comfortable and precise working experience, which is especially valuable during long workdays.

The speed valve is compact (60 x 120 x 150 mm) and fits easily within the grapple’s frame. Installation is straightforward and does not require significant structural modifications.

Though a small accessory, its impact on work efficiency is substantial. Faster operation and better control make work more effective, ensuring the investment pays off in practical use.
