James “Jim” John Conrad

James “Jim” John Conrad, 85 passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.  Born in Illinois, Jim was the son of the late Carl and Dorothy L. Bicknase Conrad. 

Jim was a Navy veteran. An employee of Verizon Communication for 39 years, Jim retired in 1990 as an engineer’s assistant.  In his pastime, he enjoyed tennis, golf, and racket ball.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Virginia Conrad; two sons, Michael Conrad and Steven Conrad and his wife, Beth; three grandchildren, Shaun, Craig, and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather Friday, July 10,10 a.m. for visitation at Smithfield Baptist Church, followed by a service celebrating Jim’s life at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating.  Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Service arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton, Smithfield, Isle of Wight and the surrounding communities.  Family and friends are encouraged to share condolences and remembrances at colonialfuneralhomesmithfield.com.
