Finances have become so strained for the Isle of Wight County School Board that it won’t waive nearly $1,000 in fees for this year’s Relay for Life event.
“We would love to help them, but it’s just not in our budget,” said School Board Chairwoman Denise Tynes at an April 23 meeting.
Every year, the Isle of Wight/Surry chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life holds a ceremony tallying its donations, celebrating survival and honoring loved ones lost.
