SUFFOLK — Adelia Gift Dowdy, 79, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015. She was born in Portsmouth to the late Charles and Charlotte Gift. She was a 1954 graduate of Cradock High School and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband Edward Gibbon Dowdy, and a sister, Anna Hamill.
She is survived by her four daughters, Dale D. Henry and husband William, Cindy L. Dowdy, Jacque D. Jacques and Eva-Lea D. Marshall and husband John; two sons, Edward G. Dowdy, II and wife Abby and Charles L. Dowdy and wife Juanita; two sisters, Eileen Cotton and Charlotte Juanita Cotton and husband George; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 14 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel by the Rev. Drew Ensz. Burial followed in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
