SURRY — Three people were airlifted to hospitals after a head-on crash that closed Route 10 for about 90 minutes last Friday.
Austin Rice, 21, of Chesapeake was driving a Honda east on Route 10 when he veered off the right side of the road, said Virginia State Trooper Robert Scarborough. Rice overcorrected to the left, striking an oncoming 1994 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Roderick Massenburg, 58, of Smithfield.{mprestriction ids=”1,2,3,4,5,6″}
Joseph Cotton, 66, a passenger in the pickup truck, was also injured, Scarborough said.
Two of the three people injured had been released from the hospital by Monday, Scarborough added.
Rice was charged with one count of reckless driving.
The accident happened around 2:10 p.m., approximately two miles east of the town of Surry.{/mprestriction}
