I am writing to offer my support of our commonwealth’s attorney and my friend, Georgette Phillips.

As a working mother myself, I have always been amazed by Georgette’s accomplishments. After paying her way through college and law school (all while being a wife and mother to two small children), she came to work as assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Isle of Wight. For 15 years she has served the citizens of this County rising through the ranks from assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney to, now, Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Much has been made of Georgette’s recent move to Isle of Wight. For many years she made the daily commute from Poquoson to Isle of Wight. She did so that her children could remain in the family home close to their grandparents. It was not easy, but any mother understands the sacrifices that we make for our children.

Her children are now older and she has chosen to move to Isle of Wight to fulfill a dream and continue the work that she has been doing for a decade and a half. She is now a resident and more than qualified to run for office.

As her opponent routinely pointed out during her first run for this office, length of residency is not the criteria on which a candidate should be judged. The criteria are experience, ability and commitment. There is only one candidate in this race with 15 years of experience as a prosecutor. There is only one candidate who has successfully represented the citizens of Isle of Wight for those 15 years. That candidate is Georgette Phillips. I hope that you will show Georgette that Isle of Wight appreciates that commitment and give her your vote.
