On Aug. 3 an “Active Shooter Presentation” sponsored by the Smithfield Ruritan Club was held at Smithfield High School. There were about 80 people that took advantage of this free program.

The Ruritans would like to give a special thanks to Lt. R. Curtis Hardison from the Virginia State Police for presenting this informative program. Thank you to Isle of Wight Sheriff Mark Marshall and his department, Chief Bowman and the Smithfield Police Department and the Isle of Wight Commonwealth’s Attorney Georgette Phillips for their participation and nice displays.

The Ruritans would also like to thank the following businesses that gave door prizes for this event; the Smithfield Station, Smithfield Fast Lube and Smithfield Farms.

In addition, the club would like to thank Principal Casey Roberts, Betty Entsminger with the School Board and the board for the use of the building.

I personally would like to thank my fellow Ruritans for their help and Zuni Ruritan Theo Hardison for the great help with planning this event.
