Gatling Pointless

The news is that there are county staff recommendations to create a new waterline to Gatling Pointe. This is consistent with a county administration that was involved in the purchasing the Stoup property, and creating the Norfolk Water Agreement. Both of those were expensive boondoggles at the taxpayers expense.

Gatling Pointe residents had the taxpayers of the town of Smithfield hook them up with water and sewage when Gatling Pointe was built. The taxpayers of Isle of Wight County are going to be asked to finance water and sewage for Gatling Pointe when it already exists because of Gatling Pointe’s fear of annexation. The town has stated it is not pursuing annexation.

Why would the taxpayers be asked to go on the hook for millions of dollars because of the neighborhood’s fears? I can’t believe all of the residents of that neighborhood are foolish enough to support essentially “carrying coals to Newcastle”. I don’t need to remind the taxpayers of the town of Smithfield that they have reason to be doubly irritated because they pay county taxes too.  Wasting taxpayers’ money in this way is just plain Gatling Pointless.
