Ruth Elizabeth Brickhouse

SUFFOLK — Ruth Elizabeth Brickhouse, 79, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, after a lengthy illness.  Born in Hertford, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Dorothy J. Copeland Goodwin. She had been a Suffolk resident since 1960. In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Brickhouse Sr. a son, Ronnie Hurley, and a brother, S. Ray Goodwin.

A devoted, wonderful and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Ruth will be sorely missed by her family. She is survived by her two sons Bobby Hurley and wife, Debbie, and Leslie Brickhouse, Jr. and wife, Kimberly; three grandchildren, Jenni Hurley Gray (Alex), Robert Shane Hurley and Laura Hurley Spivey (Josh); two great-grandchildren, Brody Utter and Kali Gray; and a sister Janice Adams.

Ruth will be remembered for her many years as hostess at the Holland House, and later Sammy and Nicks Steakhouse.  She was also a meat department clerk at Farm Fresh for a number of years.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
