Margaret Anna Atkins Harris

IVOR — Margaret Anna Atkins Harris, 84, passed away at home, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, after a lengthy illness.  Born in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie and Nora Wells Atkins.  In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Sidney, sons, Eddie, Tim and Johnny, and granddaughter, Robin Carr.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Margaret will be remembered as a hard-working woman, who worked alongside her husband, Sidney, on the family farm.  She was also a bus driver for Isle of Wight County Schools for more than 40 years and worked for more than 20 years in the cafeteria at Smithfield High School.  She was an active member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church and the ministry of the church over the years.

Margaret leave to cherish her memory her son, William “Tootie” Clayton and his wife, Brenda; two daughters, Joyce Harris Carr and Cynthia D. Hedgepeth; a sister, Nora Mae Adkins; a brother, Tommy Adkins and his wife, Grace; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family.

Family and friends gathered for visitation Nov. 5, in Mill Swamp Baptist Church.  A service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 6, in the church’s family life center, with the Rev. Jim Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mill Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, 8100 Mill Swamp Road, Ivor, VA  23866.
