Deborah “DebbieJo” Yorks Chapman, 50, passed away unexpectedly at home, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015. Born in Lapeer, Mich., Deborah was the daughter of the late Leroy and Nancy Joanne Hart Yorks. DebbieJo and her younger brother, David Leroy Yorks, grew up in Metamora, meaning, “among the hills,” Michigan. She grew up in Hunter’s Creek Church, spending the summers with grandparents, the late James and Betty Hart in Posen, Mich., near Mackinaw Bridge, where she was a passionate farm girl. She was proud of her Native American heritage and was a descendant of Sitting Bull.
Survived by her husband of nine years, Robert Chapman, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Jenette Chapman, and uncle, John Chapman of Lexington, N.C.; her brother, David L. Yorks, of Michigan; former husband, Dan Cuyler (ret. USAF) Wilmington, N.C.; many cousins, including Chris Hart of Almont, Mich..
A service celebrating Debbie’s life will be held Sunday, Jan. 3, 2 p.m., in Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leon Basham officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.
