 There are fewer than three months left to file to run for a spot on Smithfield’s Town Council.

Three seats are up for election this May. They are currently occupied by council members Randy Pack, Michael Smith and Denise Tynes. All three confirmed they were going to run for reelection. {mprestriction ids=”1,2,3,4,5,6″}

To register to run, candidates must pick up a packet at the Isle of Wight County’s Registrar’s office at 17106 Monument Circle, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The packet can also be ordered from the State Board of Election’s website at elections.virginia.gov. A complete packet includes a petition (each candidate needs 125 signatures of registered voters to run), a declaration of candidacy form, a candidate qualification form and an economic interest form.

No one has filed to run for the May election — including Pack, Smith or Tynes, according to Isle of Wight Registrar Lisa Betterton. The deadline is March 1.

Members of the council serve four-year terms and there are no limits on the number of terms an individual can serve.

Pack and Smith were both elected to the Town Council in 2012, Tynes was elected in 2008. {/mprestriction}
