A fire tore through the S. Wallace Edwards & Sons Inc. complex in Surry Tuesday afternoon. According to firefighters, the fire is believed to have started in the office and workers reported hearing an explosion. However, the cause of the blaze was under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. Workers at Edwards said they smelled smoke and firefighters were dispatched to Edwards & Sons at 12:39 p.m. Flames were still visible around 2 p.m. as firefighters continued to battle the blaze.
