Evelyn Timberlake Saunders, 95, passed away peacefully in her home on Feb. 28, 2016. After receiving her degree from Longwood College, she taught first grade for 39 years. Evelyn was an active member of Benn’s United Methodist Church for 71 years.  She was a member of the UMW, DAR, Col. William Allen Chapter and Deta Kappa Gamma.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband V.A. Saunders. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Ann Saunders Avery and husband, Joe; Dr. Drusilla Saunders Powell and husband, Robert; grandchildren: Edward Douglas Avery, William Saunders Avery, Elizabeth Ann Walthall Avery and Robert Curtis Powell Jr.  

Family and friends will gather for visitation from Tuesday, March 1, 5-7 p.m. in Benn’s United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  A service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be March 2, 2 p.m. in Benn’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. O. H. Burton officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
