Elizabeth Spencer Cofer Burgess

HAMPTON — Elizabeth Spencer Cofer Burgess, 91, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, after a short illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1924 in Smithfield to the late Willie and Myra Cofer.  Elizabeth was married for 57 years to the late Littleton Stewart Burgess and resided in Hampton.  Also preceding her in death was her brother, Frank Cofer of Smithfield. 

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Barbara Anderson of Atlanta, and Jean Greer and husband George of Smithfield; loving grandsons, Brian Waagner (Margaret), Craig Waagner (Rosie), George Greer (Heather Leigh) and Jason Greer (Heather Louise); great grandchildren, Kristen Waagner, Tracy Waagner, Natalie Waagner, Brandon Waagner, Carter Greer, Lindsey Greer, Holly Greer, Logan Greer and Caleb Greer; and sister, Marilynn Edwards of Smithfield.

Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister and she will be missed.

A service celebrating Elizabeth’s life will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Frank officiating.  Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 6-7 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home.
