Rev. James Henry Johnson

The Rev. James Henry Johnson died on May 31, 2016. He was born on Jan. 2, 1924 to the late Christopher Columbus Alasta and Anne Edel Johnson of Carrollton. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a minister at New Mount Olive in Chesapeake. 

The Rev. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Ida Mae Williams Johnson. 

He is survived by his four children, Arlevia DeVan and Reginald, Christopher and Quentin Johnson; four grandchildren, Everett DeVan and Tara, Kelby and Christa Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Everett DeVan Jr., Kiarra DeVan and Madison, Morgan and Kelby Johnson Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Rev. Johnson is remembered by his favorite Bible verse, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven,” (Matthew 5:16).
He was buried June 4 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk.
