Celebrating folk tradition

Published 12:18 pm Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Traditional folk musicians Bob Zentz, Skye and Jean McDougall take to the stage Friday, June 17, on the gazebo stage in downtown Smithfield.

The music begins at 8 p.m. and the concert is free. Bring a chair or blanket for added comfort.

In addition to his medley of Americana and folk, Zentz will also pay tribute to Norfolk’s Ramblin’ Conrad — the late country singer William Conrad Buhler. Ramblin’ Conrad’s Guitar Shop and Folklore Center, which opened in the 1970s, became the hub for all things folk in Hampton Roads for 23 years, at several locations around Norfolk before closing in 1995. The shop was named for Buhler, who became a mentor of Zentz.
