Constitution Week coming

    President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the Daughters of the American Revolution-initiated resolution to observe Constitution Week in 1956. The 229th anniversary of the signing of the constitution will be commemorated Sept. 17th – 23rd, 2016.

    Locally, the eighth graders of the Isle of Wight School System will be given a copy of the Constitution and the Blackwater Library’s Smithfield Branch will present displays. The Smithfield Chapter of the DAR will celebrate with a program on the Constitution and dress in period clothing.

    We hope everyone in Smithfield and Isle of Wight County will celebrate Constitution Week by reading this historic document.
