The Summer Concert Series winds up Friday with a special performance by the Clay and Nancy Griffin Band.

The duo is dusting off the popular country band they led for years specifically to perform for the Summer Concert Series’ 30th anniversary.

Clay and Nancy Griffin performed for the first time in 1995 as a trio with Ronnie Pier, guitarist of the original Southern Tradition Band.

The band performs country and R&B tunes, including some of Clay Griffin’s original songs written over the years.

The Griffins have done shows with Pirates of the Mississippi, David Allen Coe, Gary  Allen, Mel McDaniel and Ty Herndon.

Friday’s concert will include Ronnie Pier on guitar, pedal steel guitarist Joe Barlow, bassist Paul Spencer, drummer Mike Pellerito and the Griffins. The band is even bringing sound technicians from its former days — Mike Johnson and Ted Holdsworth.

The concert is free and begins at 8 p.m. on the gazebo stage in front of The Smithfield Times on Main Street in downtown Smithfield.

Bring a chair or blanket for added comfort.

The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by The Smithfield Times and the Isle of Wight Arts League.
