James Porter “Jimmy” Babb

COURTLAND — James Porter “Jimmy” Babb, 70, passed away Sept. 17, 2016 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a son of the late Harwood F. Babb Sr. and Frances Porter Babb. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Lassiter Babb.

Jimmy was a retired farm manager for the Virginia Department of Corrections and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a graduate of Southampton High School and had attended Hargrave Military Academy and Old Dominion University. Jimmy was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and the Manry Hunt Club

Survivors include one son, Mark A. Babb of Zuni; one brother, Harwood F. “Woody” Babb Jr. and his wife Mary of Smithfield; his nephew, Christopher Babb, and great nephew and niece, Aaron and Kala Babb, all of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Kay C.  Joyner and her husband Clint of Smithfield, N.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins with William Hart Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin and suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
