Paul Easley Owen

Paul Easley Owen passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 in his home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Tom and Reba Owen of Clarksville. Paul is preceded in death by his sister Lucy. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Catharine Jones Owen; sons, Thomas Owen (Nancy) and Armistead Owen; grandchildren, Ellen and Paul Henry; and sister, Astor Owen Defulgentiis (Gino).
Paul attended Virginia Tech where he was a member of Theta Xi – Beta Omega Fraternity. Paul retired from Smithfield Foods after 35 years work in sales where he was instrumental in the development of the Deli product line. Paul was proud to serve 16 years as a board member of Community Electric Cooperative and most recently as secretary/treasurer. Paul also enjoyed many years as a board member of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative.
Paul (aka PO) was always active in the Smithfield community as a volunteer, including food chairman for the Smithfield Ham & Gourmet Food Festival and as a docent for the Isle of Wight County Museum. He was a member of the Smithfield Bass Club, a life-long golfer, and antique car enthusiast.
The family would like to thank Paul’s fraternity brothers, the staff at Virginia Oncology, Almloff Acupuncture, and Heartland Hospice for their support during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Isle of Wight County Museum, 103 Main St., Smithfield, VA 23430 and the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
Family will receive friends at home on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2-5 p.m. A memorial service will be held a later date and burial services will be private.
