Virginia Copeland Kues

Virginia Copeland Kues, 86, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, following an extended illness. Born in Nansemond County, Virginia was the daughter of the late Annie Bosselman and Benjamin R. Copeland. She was a longtime resident of Smithfield.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Virginia leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 50 years, Robert C. Kues, who always put his wife’s needs above self and all others; two daughters, Deborah H. Povlishock and husband, Dr. John Povlishock, and Renee H. Ferrary and husband, Matthew; two granddaughters, Alexandra Newell and Marisa Povlishock; a brother, Frederick R. Copeland; nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, the late Mills Harry Holland; a sister, Edith C. Fischer; and two brothers, Benjamin R. Copeland Jr. and Robert T. Copeland.

A service celebrating Virginia’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., Dec. 14, in Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. A private burial will take place in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.

Virginia will be remembered as one who loved her family and spent a lifetime caring for others and will be profoundly missed.
