ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Alice Faye Smith Johnston, 79 passed away Feb 7, 2017 in a Greenville N.C. hospital. She graduated from Smithfield High School class of 1955. She is survived by her husband, Fritz Johnston; a son, Bobby Large of Nashville N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: three sisters, Betty Jones of Smithfield, Shirley Burroughs of Woodstock, Ga. and Marian Grady, (Andy)of Portsmouth and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Merle Smith of Smithfield, three brothers, Bennie Smith, Buddy Smith and Eddie Smith; and a stepson, Lee Johnston. 
A celebration of her life will be held Feb. 26, 2 p.m. at the home of her niece, Kim Campbell 2505 Lake Cahoon Road, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or the Roanoke Rapids N.C. Veterans Museum, Becker Village Mall 1620 E 10th St. Roanoke Rapids N.C. 27870.
