Harold Kenway Bennett II

Harold Kenway Bennett II, 94, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.  Born in Ararat, Penn. on Sept. 15, 1922, Harold was the son of the late Pauline Carpenter and Harold K. Bennett.
An U.S. Army-Air Force veteran during WWII, Staff-Sgt. Bennett was stationed in India.  Close to the end of his military stint he married his wife of 71 years, Norah Kathleen O’Brien in Calcutta, India, on Jan. 14, 1946.  Later that year, they returned the states, settling in Ithaca, N.Y.  Harold managed and maintained real estate apartment properties for a number of years.
Then, he retired to Florida and worked as chief engineer at Miami’s Jockey Club.  After some 20 years, living in Florida, Harold came to Smithfield to be close to family.
He was a life member of the VFW.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Harold leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Norah Bennett; daughters, Eileen Cole, April Jahncke, Carolyn Booth, Patricia Halleran; and son, Harold K. Bennett III; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Davis; brother, Richard Bennett; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A service celebrating Harold’s life will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton.  Private burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk
