Garland Norfleet Brock Jr., 62, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 after a courageous 17-year battle with cancer.  A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, he is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 44 years, Kathy Jones Brock. He was the son of the late Garland Norfleet Brock Sr. and Katie Ann Jones.  

Garland is survived by his daughters, Melissa Brock and Sara Brock; son, Justin Brock (Jessica); six grandchildren, McKenzie, Payton, Gunnar, Stella, Gabby and Ryland; brother, Raymond Brock (Cindy); sisters, Phylis Jones (George) and Debra Brock; and mother-in-law, Edith Jones. 

Garland was also preceded in death by his brothers, Allen and Timmie Brock, and a grandson, Dylan. 

Affectionately known as the mayor of “The Brock Village” and as “Paw” to his grandkids, Garland was an active, dedicated elder of Rescue Friends Evangelical Church where he enjoyed maintaining the church grounds.  He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, family trips to the mountain cabin and the beach, and especially riding his grandkids around the village on the golf cart. 

A funeral service will be held Saturday March 4, 11 a.m. in Mill Swamp Baptist Church, Ivor, with the Rev E. James Herzog officiating.  

The family will receive friends at a reception to be held after the service in the family life center.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 97 Smithfield, VA 23431 or the Rescue Friends Evangelical Church, 21295 Rescue Road, Rescue, VA 23424.
