Elsie Mae Barlow O’Berry

WINDSOR — Elsie Mae Barlow O’Berry, 87, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017. Born in Isle of Wight County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Eva Savage Barlow. In addition to her parents, Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Frank O’Berry (d. 2000), and two brothers, Clyde and James L. Barlow.
A beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Elsie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Arlene O’Berry; two sons, Allen O’Berry (Debbie) and Ronald O’Berry; grandchildren, Carol O’Berry, Sandra Frost and Nathan O’Berry; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia B. Edwards (John) and Myrtle Parker (John); and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Elsie lived a life of service to the community. She was the glue that held her family together and will be remembered for her love, compassion, and caregiving to anyone in need. She gave countless hours of service to the Isle of Wight Ruritan Club and was considered an honorary lady of the Ruritans. She was a lifelong member of Central Hill Baptist Church where she served on the hospitality committee for eons, and was a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Family and friends gathered March 12 for visitation in Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton. A service celebrating Elsie’s life was held March 13, in Central Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
