James E. “Jimmy” Rhodes IV

James E. “Jimmy” Rhodes IV, 49, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017.  Jimmy was born in Georgia and had lived in Smithfield most of his life.  He had previously been a truck driver for Carson Hodge Hauling.  

Preceded in death by his father, James E. Rhodes III; his grandparents, William and Louise Whitley; and uncle, Steve Whitley, Jimmy is survived by mother, Shirley Whitley Barncord and her husband, Gary; his sons, Richard A. Copeland and Chris J. Rhodes; a grandson, Nathan C. Rhodes; a sister, Michelle R. Gossip, and her husband, Jim; aunts, Sue Goerger, and her husband, Bob, Jo Anne Dennis, and Darlene Whitley; uncle, Bill Whitley, and his wife, Robin; and a host of extended family.

A service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 18, 11 a.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Cofield officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. There will be a private burial in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
