Carolyn Hansen Geiger

Carolyn Hansen Geiger, 98, of Hackensack, Minn., died in Smithfield on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Carolyn was born on Dec. 17, 1918, in St. Paul, Minn. to Henry and Jane Duncan Hansen.  They lived most of their lives in a beautiful duplex on 1926 Summit Ave, in St. Paul with their Auntie Caroline Dohs and Uncle Charles Dohs. She attended Central High School in St. Paul and the University of Minnesota where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

She met James Woodrow Geiger at the university, and they married in April of 1942. He was employed by E.R. Squibb Pharmaceutical Co., General Mills, Wood Conversion Co. and Phillip Morris in Richmond, where they enjoyed living the southern life and visiting with friends. They returned to Minnesota where he worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1986. Carolyn was a receptionist for Drs. Dean and Doan in White Bear Lake, Minn. They had a home in Wayzata, Minn. where she tended to her beautiful rose gardens and they spent many winters in Kingsmill on the James in Williamsburg, and in the summer when they retired to their beloved lake home on Woman Lake in Hackensack, Minn. Jim passed away in October of 2003.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Charles Hansen and Jane Hansen of Whitmore, Calif. She is survived by her two children, Nancy Geiger Bondurant and her husband, Walton, of Smithfield, and James Richard Geiger and his wife, Mary Beth Murphy of Hayes; four grandchildren, Carey B. Hayslett and her husband, Robert of Smithfield, Ami B. Balderson and her husband, Bob, of Mechanicsville, Walton G. Bondurant III and his wife, Anna of Smithfield, Virginia Teal Geiger of Mountain View, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler G. Hayslett and Lily C. Hayslett of Smithfield, Charles R. Balderson III (Chay), and Ella G. Balderson of Mechanicsville, Aubrey A. Bondurant (Lexi) and Walton G. Bondurant IV of Smithfield; several nieces and nephews, and other beloved members of the family including Peggy and Les Rutledge of Smithfield, Alison Rutledge of Atlanta, Ga., Austin and Nicole Rutledge and children Wyatt and Paxton Rutledge of Wake Forest, N.C., and Martha Geiger of Richmond. Carolyn will always be grateful to her good friends in and around Woman Lake, Longville Community Church and her Bridge Club friends, Sandy Powers of Williamsburg, and those who were her caregivers at Magnolia Manor in Smithfield.
