Officer Branislav (Misha) Frigelj 64 of Smithfield died peacefully on Sunday, April 9 in his home surrounded by family after a courageous two and a half year battle with ALS.
A man who crossed continents for his family’s safety at the onset of the war in the former Yugoslavia, Misha decided to settle in Isle of Wight County in 2004. It is here where he enjoyed the peace and beauty of our area, gardening, fishing and making a variety of smoked and cured meats for his family and friends to share. Misha will be remembered as a charismatic, friendly, yet principled man who’d do anything for a friend.
He is survived by his wife, two children, their spouses, two beautiful grandchildren, and his cat, all of whom he adored. By education a veterinarian, Misha worked for the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Department, Animal Services Division where he continued his lifelong passion caring for animals.
Family and friends will gather at Little’s Funeral Home on Thursday April, 13 at 4:30 pm and will proceed to a grave-side service at Ivy Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at their home. Condolences may be posted online at littlesfuneralhome.com.
