George Morris “Chip” Smith Jr.

George Morris “Chip” Smith Jr., 55, passed away on May 2, 2017 in Obici Hospital.  Chip was a lifelong resident of Newport News and 1979 graduate of Warwick High School.  He had been employed at Newport News Shipbuilding for 15 years until health problems forced him to disability. Chip was an avid Civil War buff and loved to follow Civil War programs and reenactments throughout Virginia. Chip shared the last 16 years with his best friend and companion, Nora Davidson. Chip is survived by his parents, Morris and Sandra Smith of Smithfield; his sister. Carissa Evans and her husband Jeff; niece, Presley Ann Shields and her husband, Cody; nephew, Jeffrey Scott Evans Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, on Saturday May 6, 3 p.m., with burial to follow at a later date on the family farm.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5, 6 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Condolences may be registered online at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
