Melvena Vail Hutchinson, 88, passed away Sunday May 28, 2017 in the Riverside Healthy Living Community.  The daughter of the late Lexus I. Vail and Gertrude Power Vail, Melvena was born in Houlton, Maine where she met her husband of 48 years, the late Asbra Raymond Hutchinson.  Melvena was known by many for her long walks around her communities of Pagan Point and Red Point Heights in Smithfield. 

Melvena leaves to cherish her memories four daughters; Mary Jane Gilman (John), Rae Anne Hutchinson, Sue Jordan (Kenny) and Joyce Hutchinson; a son, Mark Hutchinson (Garnett); 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Leonard J. Hutchinson, and a grandson, John Gilman. 

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield on June 3.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the service to follow at 3 p.m.  Burial will be at a later date in the Hodgdon Cemetery, Hodgdon, Maine.
