Hazel Marie Blankenship Harris

CARROLLTON — Hazel Marie Blankenship Harris, 91, wife of the late Luther Fred Harris, passed away at home Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.

Born in McAlpin, W.V., Hazel was the daughter of the late Cora Bell Whitt and Joe Carlton Blankenship.  She was formerly of Stuart and Hampton for 61 years and had lived in Isle of Wight since 2011. 

In addition to her parents, and husband, Hazel is preceded in death by a son, Rickie Harris; a brother, Joe Blankenship; and three sisters, Helen Sink, Louise Deal, and Guydie Haskins.  She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Teena Harris and Sharon Voiers; and a son, Michael Harris; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8:00 pm, Monday, Aug. 14, 6-8 p.m. at the family home, and Harris Farm.  A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2 p.m. in Patrick Memorial Gardens, Stuart.  

She was a seamstress by trade and worked at both Kate Greenway and Coates and Clarke dress factories.  She was affectionately known as “Big Nanny” by many.
