John H. Peterson

VIRGINIA BEACH — John H. Peterson, Sr., 95, of First Colonial Inn in Virginia Beach, died on Sept. 24, 2017. A native of Mt. Olive, N.C., he was predeceased by his wife, Rose, one brother and five sisters. He is survived by his son, John Jr. (Jo Ann); sister Helen (H.J.); two grandsons, John III (Stacy) and Lucky (Elizabeth); four great-grandchildren, Penn, Gage, Greer and Vaughan.

John retired from the U.S. Naval Submarine Service, Piqua, Ohio Nuclear Power Facility, and Virginia Power. He resided in Smithfield for more than 35 years and was formerly a member of Cedar Point Country Club, the American Legion, VFW, and Subvets.

The Peterson family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caretaker, Michelle Spyres, and her aides, Maria and Pat for their love and devoted care of our “Daddy Pete.”

A “Tribute to John Sr.” will be held in Virginia Beach at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Great Neck Chapel of Holloman Brown. A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Smithfield followed by a burial in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
