Ann Powell Eley, 83, of Suffolk, passed away Jan.14, 2018. She was born in Suffolk to the late Joseph and Mary Powell.  Ann was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1952.

Ann worked full time as a purchaser at Gwaltney Foods and after her retirement there she managed the books and the crew (Dicky and Ricky) for Eley Landscaping, not to mention she could out work them both.  She also made time to work in their garden by picking, shelling, canning and freezing.  She cooked the best “butter beans.”  The Sunday meals we all shared from her corn bread to deserts, especially chocolate meringue pie, and you-name-it, she could cooked it better than anyone.  Ann was blessed to be able to keep her grandbabies, who loved and called her “Annie Nannie.”

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, William R. Eley Jr.; and daughter, Cathy Lester; two sisters; and three brothers.  Survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia Edwards, and Debra Carter (Steve); son and daughter-in-law, William R. “Ricky” Eley III (Tina); son-in-law, Tim Lester; grandchildren, Britt Crowley (Tracy), Meghan Bockelman (Kaden), Sarah Jo Theisen (Matt), Caleigh Burns (CJ), William R. Eley IV (Tristen); great grandchildren, Jakob, Blair, Ali, Cash, William R. Eley V (“Liam” due in April); sisters, Helen Saunders and Betty Sue Pippin (Roy); brothers, Ed Powell (Carolyn) and Charles Powell; two special sisters-in-law Jean and Judy Powell; and many nieces and nephews.
