Mary Louise Barlow Haverty, 83, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018.  Born in Isle of Wight County, Feb. 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Wright and Joseph R. Barlow Sr. She was a retired teacher of Smithfield High School and a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters, Mary Kim Haverty and Suzanne Haverty; son, Dr. Howard O. Haverty Jr. (Diane); three grandchildren, Joseph Patrick Haverty (Reanne), Daniel Jeffrey Haverty (Kelley) and Lauren Olivia Haverty; brother, Dr. Thomas W. Barlow (Sandra) and sister-in-law, Shirley K Barlow. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard O. Haverty Sr. and her brother, Joseph Ray Barlow Jr.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton, with the Rev. Dr. Don Rhoton officiating. Private burial will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.  Following the service, the family will receive friends in the funeral home at a reception hosted by Smithfield Baptist Church.
