Disappointed twice
Editor, Smithfield Times
Under the title of “Major Disappointments,” I would put two recent occurrences in Isle of Wight County. First the decision by one of our county’s private schools to use the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday as a snow closure make up day.
The other would be the Board of Supervisors approving a zoning change for one of the biggest development companies in our area.

Successful blood drive
Editor, Smithfield Times
January’s back-to-back snow storms impacted many, and really hit the blood supplies during the post-holiday period already known for low inventories. So, what did we accomplish in Smithfield on January 11? Well, just the third consecutive drive smashing our collection goal! 90 units!
Thank you to the Smithfield Women’s Club for your wonderful canteen sponsorship to check in, feed, and hydrate the donors. Thank you to the Masons who show up time and again, early and then late to set up and take down the tables and chairs in Trinity’s Parish Hall. Which reminds me — thank you to Trinity for the use of your space and kitchen once again. I know I’m forgetting some great helpers, but please know you are valued highly!
Please join us for the next drive Thursday, March 8, noon to 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar Street. The Drive and Food Canteen Sponsor will be American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 49.
