The Isle of Wight County Museum is collecting stories about African-American men and women of Isle of Wight County who made a contribution in industry, agriculture, public service, education, sports and more. The collection will be similar to the recent online exhibit about Isle of Wight County during World Wars I and II.
Currently, entries include Charles Henry Gray, the Glover farming family, Henry H. Bradby, James B. Brown, Georgie Davis Tyler, Elign Lowe and Vivian Greene, a Smithfield High School graduate who was drafted into the newly established Women’s Professional Basketball League for the Dayton Rockettes.
To contribute, email, call or stop by the museum to drop off photographs, memories and documents. Email at jengland@smithfieldva.gov, call 356-1223 or visit at 103 Main St. in Smithfield. To view the collection, visit www.historicisleofwight.com
