Luther William Spratley Sr., affectionately known as Speedball, was born on June 24, 1934 in Norfolk.  God called Luther home in the early hours of Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Sentara Obici Hospital with his devoted wife by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Susie I. Bailey Spratley; one daughter, Jeanette Wade (Willie); three sons, Luther Jr. (Barbara), Curtis (Cassandra) and Ray (Gloria). He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Atkins, Rosa Bailey and Nancy Spratley; one stepdaughter, Lottie Bailey; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held at Chapman-JT Fisher Funeral Services, 658 W. Main St., Smithfield on Thursday, Feb. 8, 4–7 p.m.  A life celebration service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 11150 Emmanuel Church Road, Smithfield with the Rev.
