Marjorie Addison Baird

MIDLOTHIAN — Marjorie Addison Baird, 87, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health in the home of her daughter in Midlothian on Feb. 5, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Surry County until moving to Midlothian in the fall of 2015. The youngest child of the late Charles Edward Addison and Adeline Clawson Addison, she was born on Jan. 20, 1931. It was while working at the Surry Drug Company that she met her future husband, James Baird, whom she married in 1952. She continued to serve the public and help others for many years through her various roles at The Surrey House Restaurant, The Surrey House of Fashions and The Trellis in Williamsburg. Her church and community were important to her as evidenced by her active membership at Surry United Methodist Church, Surry Woman’s Club, Surry Business and Professional Women’s Club, Spring Grove Community Club and the Rusty Needle. She will long be remembered for her love of cooking and her beautiful needlework, both of which she generously shared with others. Her family was important to her, and she cherished the many vacations, celebrations, and activities she enjoyed through the years with them. 

Mrs. Baird is survived by one daughter, June B. Edwards, and her husband, J.W. (Jerry) Edwards; two grandsons, James Wesley Edwards III, and his wife, Sara, and Jeffrey William Edwards; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, James Wesley Baird; brothers, Herman, Merle and William Addison; and sister, Evelyn Coley. 

The family will receive friends at R.W. Baker & Co Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel on Friday, Feb. 9, 4 – 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Surry United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Rowland, the Rev. Sam Askew, and Jerry Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Surry.
