SURRY — Iva “Polly” Jones Seward, 88, of Surry passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018. She grew up in Amelia County, graduated from Longwood Teachers College, and began her teaching career in Surry in 1950.  From 1974 to her retirement she held the position of Surry County Schools food service supervisor. She was a member of Surry Baptist Church, a charter member of the Surry Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of the National Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a former member of the Surry County School Board, a member of the Williamsburg Doll Club, and a lifetime member of the Surry Historical Society.  Polly could do just about anything she set her mind on doing.  She loved to garden, cook, sew, attend church and go to auctions. 

She was preceded in death by her husband K. Marshall Seward, her baby son K. Marshall Seward Jr.; her parents John and Essie Jones; and her three brothers, John Jr., Roger and Mason.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, a daughter, Jeannie Seward Rowland and husband, Ray; a son, John Marshall Seward and wife, Anne; her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Matthew Faubion and wife, Rachel, Kevin Faubion and wife, Kimberly, Hannah Seward, Nicholas Seward; and great-granddaughter Olivia Faubion; three sisters, Hilda Tucker, Mary Davis and husband, Jim, Ruth Houck and husband Stuart; and bunches of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Feb. 18, 2 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home 11414 General Mahone Hwy Wakefield, VA 23888 with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to either Surry Baptist Church, P.O.
