Mable Geraldine “Deanie” Joyner Holland

Mable Geraldine “Deanie” Joyner Holland, 86, passed away at her home Friday, Feb. 23, 2018.  Born March 13, 1931, Deanie was the daughter of the late Lloyd L. and Victoria Chapman Joyner. She had lived in Isle of Wight County all of her life.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepmother, Mamie Joyner, six sisters and four brothers and a very special grandson, Chad Nelson Byrum.

Affectionately known as “DeeDee, DoubleDee, Deester and DeeSquare” by her family and friends, she leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Deborah Byrum and husband, Cecil, and Julie Major and husband, Gene; grandchildren, Steele (Nancy) Byrum, Styles (Janssen) Major, and Ashley (Darin) Cowan; three great-grandchildren, Josie, Mason, and Silas; and a host of extended family and friends.

A beloved mother and grandmother, and great-grandmother, Deanie served as a retired teachers aid at Isle of Wight Academy preschool and daycare 27 years of service.  Presently, Deanie was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, and was a former member of  Central Hill Baptist Church where she had been active in the church choir, Sunday school and ministries of the church.

Family and friends will gather Monday, February 26, 6-7:30 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church for visitation.  A service celebrating Deanie’s life will be held Feb. 27, 2 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church, followed by burial in Central Hill Cemetery. 

The family suggests memorial contributions in Deanie’s memory to be made Isle of Wight Academy, PO Box 105, Isle of Wight, VA 23397.
