Stephanie Leigh Jenkins Evans

CARROLLTON — Stephanie Leigh Jenkins Evans, 47, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, after a brief bout with cancer.  Born in Newport News, she was the daughter of the late Cecil T. Jenkins and Patricia Duncan Jenkins, who survives her.  Stephanie was a resident of Isle of Wight all of her life and was a 1988 graduate of Smithfield High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Christopher Newport University.  

At the time of her death Stephanie was working at Smithfield Foods in the accounting department and fulfilled 23 years with the company.  Stephanie was an active member of Smithfield Baptist Church, the choir, the fellowship committee, chaperoned the youth on mission trips to Prague, and assisted with the children with their church programs.

A beloved wife, mom, daughter and sister, Stephanie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Steven Evans; her mother, Patricia; sister, Michele Jenkins; step-children, Steven Evans, Nicholas Evans and Emily Evans; mother-in-law, Linda Evans; and a host of friends and extended family who will sorely miss her for many days and years to come.

Our lives have been truly blessed by Stephanie.  Stephanie was always outgoing and energetic and shared a love and outlook on life that was contagious.  Whether at work, church or play, Stephanie was a joy and a friend, always caring and giving of herself.

Family and friends will gather Friday, March 2, 6-7:30 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church for visitation.  A service celebrating Stephanie’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3, in Smithfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating.  Burial will be private in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.  Following the service, the family will continue to celebrate Stephanie with a reception in the Family Life Center of the church.  For both services, it is suggested of those attending to wear something purple in memory of Stephanie.
