George Asbury Buchanan

George Asbury Buchanan, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018.  Born in Sylva, Jackson County, N.C., he was the son of the late Thomas W. Jr. and Etta Cabe Buchanan.

He had lived in Isle of Wight most of his life.  

For some 31 years, George was a tug boat operator for C&O Railroad, the owner/operator of Buchanan Logging Co. and an avid gardener.

A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, George is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alyne C. Buchanan; a son, Clinton Buchanan; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Perry and three daughters, Adline Matthews, Patricia Stoffel and Linda Selman

Family and friends will gather Saturday, March 10, 5-6:30 p.m., for visitation in Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton.  A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 11, 2 p.m., Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matthew Havens officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
