Robert Sidney Lentz, 88, of Smithfield passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 after a brief illness.  A native of North Carolina, Robert was the son of the late John Franklin Lentz Sr. and Ethel Currie Lentz.  

A veteran of the U. S. Army, he had retired as a civil service engineer.  After retirement he spent many years in Florida with his wife of 45 years, Elaine Robinson Lentz.  After moving to Smithfield to be closer to family. he became a member of the local American Legion and attended Benn’s United Methodist Church.  Robert is survived by his wife Elaine; daughter, Gloria J. Smith (Lloyd); grandchildren, Lloyd Smith Jr. (Lynn) and Shara Mehailescu (Frank); and great grandchildren Amanda, Mathew, Sydney and Patrick.   

A service in celebration of his life with military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 6 p.m. at Littles Funeral Home, Smithfield.  The family will receive friends following the service.
